The GBG-Mannheimer Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH is the largest housing company in Mannheim (320.000 people), the center of the „european metropolregion rhein neckar“ with its roughly 2,5 million people. The GBG owns about 20.000 dwellings in Mannheim and used to be a non-profit social housing company until 1990. The company is 100% owned by the city of mannheim and is the market leader with 12,5% market share in mannheim. Besides renting out dwellings for a broad layer of the population with our 285 employees we build and sell houses and apartments, we manage apartments for private owners and we offer construction management for others.

Description of the role of GBG:

The GBG is one of two companies for the testing phase. The proposals and new framework as a result of the TACKOBST project will be tested for its feasibility at an microeconomic level by those two companies. The results of the testing phase will have an important impact of the new institutional framework.
